Constituent ID

Hi, do you happen to know if the Constituent ID can be added as a placeholder in communications (emails) sent via NXT WebView?

what's available is listed under the Merge menu selection, Constituent ID is not one of them

  • @Alex Wong Thank you! The issue we currently face is that our alumni don't usually know/remember their Student ID numbers. I would like to find a way to incorporate that number into our communications. Any advice on how to do that would be very much appreciated

Unfortunately there is no way to do this using what RE NXT email offers.

You will either have to export email list with cooresponding info (email, name, id, etc) then use an external emailing tool OR use SKY API to create an automation that will send out customized email with any custom content/data from the constituent record. Here's a tutorial how you might want to do this

even though this is for acknowledgement, it is a similiar concept for what you want to do

  • I believe the reason for not being available is because it is PII or Personal Identifiable Information. We have the same issue that very few Alumni remember their student IDs and in our case the University has gone from one system to another so the IDs all got converted to something completely different for past Graduates. Not sure exactly what you are trying to accomplish, but we've asked for other pieces of information from Alumni to find a match within RE - email, Graduation Year of initial degree from institution, birthdate (optional and indicate it is to find a match of her/him in our database. We've also asked for madden names and/or name at graduation. We also have an optional item for University ID if they know it. Hope this is helpful.

  • @Damon Rosenthal, Many thanks. We encountered similar issues to yours with the University IDs. We would like to use the CID as a unique identifier in our Alumni Communications, providing an additional tool to match students when they update their details but for the look of it this is not possible and would be really nice feature to have.

Constituent ID is generally an identifier that's specific to RE only, not seomthing that would identify the donor anywhere else outside of RE. Unless some org put info like SSN as the constituent ID, which I have not really heard of.

@Alejandra Regazzi use the Idea Bank to make the suggestion, as community post isn't the right place for making new idea suggestions.

FYI - Our University uses another system and has an ID construct for Students, Faculty & Staff. We have RE and keep the RE ID in sync with the same ID construct for Alumni records we are responsible for. This way we have an easy link back and forth. I expect a lot or Higher Education that don't use the same system as the University would also do this. This also helps us easily identify between Alumni/University Affiliates and Friend/Donors within our database as the ID Construct is different between the two.

FYI for all readers here - I believe there are laws/regulations that say we can't use anyone's SSN as an identifier/ID within our systems. Regardless, I don't recommend this at all. I don't believe this field is encrypted or treated the same as the SSN field within RE (if you are using that).
