Power BI Missing Values (Recurring Gift Data)

Options

I feel like I'm missing something extremely simple here, especially as I'm new to Power BI overall, but after recently setting up and connecting NXT to Power BI and trying to import data from our “Recurring Gift" list, I notice that none of the gifts have any of the recurring gift data. No schedule, no frequency, no end date, no nothing. Just regular gift data (amount, date, post date, receipts, fundraisers, etc). However, I know the recurring gift data is there because I recently exported them to an excel using Power Automate.

So is there something I'm missing here? Do I need to transform the data in some special way? Thanks for any guidance.

  • Hi @matt thacker and @Ben Regier is this an issue with Power BI as I have been asking about issues and data availability in the other posting called ‘Power BI Integration with RE Nxt’ with this integration?

  • Power BI Integration with RE Nxt

  • @Aidan Lambert, do you mean that you've created a Gift List that contains all of your recurring gifts, and then are bringing that data into Power BI by going through the “Gifts > Public Lists” (or My Private Lists) path in the Blackbaud connector?

Yes, this is exactly what I did. I have a feeling this was not the way?

That is the way I would approach it - just wanted to be sure I was on the same page as you.

Bringing in gifts this way uses the Gift Lists endpoint in SKY API, and that endpoint returns a collection of Gift Entities. I see in the documentation that a Gift Entity includes the recurring gift schedule, but only for automated recurring gifts. Do you know if your recurring gifts are automated or not?

Yes, these are all automated gifts.

I saw from another post here by Dan Snyder that he's aware not all of the endpoints are available in Power BI yet. Perhaps this is one of the ones not yet finished?

If this is the case, I think that it might be possible to work the data in by exporting it to an excel in some way (either through aforementioned Power Automate or through plain old query & export) and then just copy and paste the data in as a new table and connect it on gift id? Not the prettiest/most efficient way, but it'll work in the meantime. Open to other ideas/improvements.

  • We don't use automated recurring gifts, so I can't test this on my end. According to the documentation (which tends to be reliable), this data should be included in what's coming from the connector (at least for automated recurring gifts). If it's not, a support ticket with Blackbaud wouldn't hurt. And yes, bringing in the data via another source like Power Automate and linking it with a gift ID should work - although since Power Automate and Power BI both use the same API, it would be very strange if you could get that data in PA but not in PB.
