Applying security groups / roles to various embedded PBI reports?

Hi folks,

I've been working on and have managed to embed PBI reporting into NXT, however I have not been able to locate information on restricting the access to the various reports to particular users or roles. Is there a way to do this?

Eg: Have the alumni managers be able to access alumni reports, but not fundraising ones, and vice versa.

  • Hi Rob - There are some additional ways to control access within RENXT through code with a non-PowerPlatform add-in. But when using the embed option for either Power BI or Power Apps, we typically use security access definitions in Microsoft to determine which ones each user group can see. A Power BI example is to publish alumni and fundraising reports to 2 different workspaces in Power BI Service (online). Then use MS sharing and access group rights at the workspace level to ensure that alumni can't see fundraising and vice versa. Then it is more pervasive to Teams and other ways of sharing using MS AD. At that point, you could have 2 custom actions from the Home Page, for example: one for Alumni Reporting and one for Fundraising reporting. If a person in the Alumni BI workspace clicks on the Fundraising report, they won't be able to view. But you can't hide the option… hope that helps. Happy to discuss further.
