Hi Rebecca - I would recommend you reach out to your finance team/auditors about to handle these types of gifts. Sometimes finance may want to hold onto the gift until the condition is met, and will then pass it onto RE for entry. You will want to do what is best for your organization.

  • Actually my conversations with the CFO, prompted this ask. She thought there may be a way within the R.E. system to record a conditional gift, like we can with a matching gift. I tried to explain I didn't believe there was, other than creating gift attributes.

Also, the Finance department has moved to a new system called "Sage Intaact", and we are in the process of trying to figure out how both R.E. and Sage are going to integrate together. If you know of any other nonprofits who have done this, that would be helpful as well.

Thank you for commenting on where you are in the process. There is no straight forward way to record a conditional gift, that I know of. If you don’t want to count the conditional gift as revenue you could enter it under the gift type “Other”, otherwise I would commend you record the conditional status in a searchable field such as a gift attribute.

  • I'm not entire sure that this would give you what you need, but you could track these in Proposals, using the Status field to track your progress towards meeting the conditions on the gift. Or you could also enter as a Planned Gift, and when you meet the conditions and receive the funds, you could realize the gift. This may or may not work for what you need, though.

  • I will look into it further, thank you!
  • Thank you, this is helpful!
