General Description:

The Innovation and Research group at Operation Smile is a quickly growing and unique group that provides a wide variety of strategic, programmatic, research, education and technical support to Operation Smile’s global network. Projects include health systems strengthening, epidemiological and genetic studies, education development, surgical outcomes, understanding the barriers to reaching care, and many others. We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic individual to join our team and work directly with the Chief Innovation Officer to better manage, organize, and synthesize our ongoing work to serve our patients. The job will be 80% remote, but the individual needs to be based in the Los Angeles area for weekly meetings.

Tasks and Expectations:

The Executive Assistant of Research reports directly to the Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) and the Associate Vice President of Research. They will work closely with the CIO on:

  • Prepare reports, presentations, memos, and other documents on behalf of the CIO
  • Research and conduct data to prepare documents for review and presentation
  • Help coordinate and prepare for meetings to facilitate high-level discussion among executives and country- stakeholders
  • Accurately recording minutes from meetings and follow-up with all individuals
  • Read and analyze project proposals, project summaries, programmatic documents, etc. to distribute, edit and process appropriately
  • Must be able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced quickly changing environment.
  • Manage information flow in a timely and accurate manner

Skills and Requirements

  • An undergraduate-level background in science, statistics and/or public health
  • Master’s degree in a health-related field preferred
  • Candidates must be self-driven, capable and willing to learn and often self-teach skills are required to complete the jobs at hand.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills.
  • Professional level verbal and written communications skills.
  • Experience drafting and writing proposals

Hours:

This is a full-time position with an expected time commitment of 40 hours per week. The Fellow position is mostly remote but may include weekly meetings at CHLA or USC (where the CIO is based). In addition to weekly in-person or Zoom team check-in meetings, all team members are expected to participate in other meetings as they pertain to project needs.
