Event registrations and the phone field

Options
We are running our first NXT registration event. While there are some nice features, we keep encountering issues. How do you deal with phone #s?

Our phone #s are coming with type of "PhoneFinder". Some are #s on the records and others are new data. This # is also getting marked as primary as many of our records do not have a primary # indicated. So now I have records with a PhoneFinder # marked as primary that I don't know is even a correct # for the person. Per the information from support I could have other phone types on the form but "Note: Online forms only support phone types with a Phone number format of <none>." Why would I want to remove my formatting from cell/home/business phone types? I don't.

Suggestions to work around this? With this issue and all the duplicate records we're getting, we won't be using NXT for events again until a lot of changes happen.

  • Just created Idea bank suggestion to allow for formatted #s on events.
  • VOTED! We have not implemented NXT events, but I appreciate learning about this now. Thanks JoAnn Strommen‍ !
  • This is weird and annoying. It feels like there is something wrong under the hood, but rather than fix it we are forced to sacrifice some usability.

I did remember this post from a few weeks ago, which is related to donation forms but may also apply for event reg forms? And hard to say if it is still sticking, but worth a try.

Hello! I just wanted to followup on this thread as JoAnn and I have connected off of the Idea she posted and I wanted to make sure other people are able to get the same information!

Today, in preparation for being able to support international registrants in the future, the phone number field must be set to a phone type with a format of "None." When we expand the phone number to support international numbers, the phone type will be ready to capture phone numbers with additional digits which is not possible with the formatted phone types.

Since there is no way to tell what actual type of phone number the registrant is submitting, if you don't already have a generic phone capture type set for a "None" format, we recommend setting one up just for the online webview forms. This will also help you be able to easily see what phone numbers came through the online forms for data review purposes.

Ultimately, it sounds like what many of you are asking for is for the registrant to have a way to indicate which type of phone number they are giving you that can then flow in to the appropriate phone type you've setup in RE. I recommend voting for this idea that would give your registrants and donors multiple options to choose from (for example, they'd be able to choose between a home, cell or business phone type.)

    Thanks,
