The Thacher School is one of the most selective and highly regarded boarding schools in the nation. Founded in 1889 by Sherman Day Thacher, the School serves academically talented students from 24 states and 9 countries in a rigorous college preparatory experience. The faculty and students live and work closely together on a 427-acre campus nestled in the foothills of the Los Padres National Forest in Ojai, California (85 miles north of Los Angeles). The Alumni and Development Office is responsible for engaging alumni, parents, grandparents, and other community members through events, fundraising, volunteerism, and other relationship strengthening activities.

Position: Assistant Director of Development Operations

Reports to: Director of Development Operations

Status: Full-time, staff

The Assistant Director of Development Operations supports the operational needs of the office. Operations team tasks include: Data processing, database management, gift processing, software support, prospect researching, events logistical support, and list and reporting for all members of the team. The Assistant Director of Development Operations will oversee data updates and regular custom reporting for the team. They will be an expert in the RE database and Blackbaud technology, have a breadth of experience in various independent school software programs, and work efficiently with spreadsheets and databases with an ability to project manage and clearly communicate with team members as a master collaborator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prospect Researcher for all constituent projects annually (including wealth research, contact updates, and business information updates)
  • As directed by the Director of Development Operations, strategize and manage annual data and clean up projects and oversee project implementation

  • Provide assistance with staff requests for reports, basic queries, and mailing lists

  • General data and records management including Complete regular data audits in RE to ensure consistent and accurate data entry.

  • Assist with information gathering for Annual Report and other Magazine publications. Including data collection, data updates and cleanups, and proofing of naming structures.

  • Manage Gift Administrator and provide occasional backup to Gift Administrator as needed with data-related projects and gift processing

  • Actively participate in Alumni & Development efforts with a proactive customer-service mindset

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years proven expert ability with Raiser's Edge and CRM reporting systems

  • 5+ years work experience in an office environment

  • An outstanding commitment to accurate data recording and reporting

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities at the same time

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Google

  • Discretion with handling confidential information

  • Familiarity with a non-profit environment ideally in education

  • A strong history of initiating, participating, and collaborating with team members

  • Strong quantitative and organizational skills

  • Comfort with a fast-paced office

  • A desire to be accountable, take on additional responsibility, and to learn and grow

  • College degree preferred

Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed, year-round. This position will begin in a remote environment but will transition to an on-campus position when the office opens.
