Development Manager, Grants & Institutional Relations - Washington, DC
Advancement Project National Office is seeking an experienced, organized go-getter to join the fundraising team as a Development Manager for Grants and Institutional Relations. The ideal candidate will manage and coordinate all institutional grants awarded to the organization. He/she will serve as the first writer on most reports, proposals, and LOIs. Lead efforts to identify and renew revenue utilizing advanced fundraising techniques, including grant management and prospect research. This position will report to the Deputy Director of Development and will be a member of the union with compensation determined by the union compensation structure.

What you’ll do:
- Manages current portfolio of institutional grants
- Write all grant reports and most grant proposals and letters of interest.
- Prepare narrative and financial reporting and the development and adjustment of associated budgets.
- Manage a portfolio of foundation donors in coordination with the Deputy Director of Development including relationship management with program officers, sharing updates, and ensuring we are on track to steward our funding
- Maintain and control grants filing system and documentation of institutional knowledge, especially grant agreements and commonly used documents that accompany proposals and reports.
- Coordinate with the Development Associate to ensure that revenue and expense information are recorded in donor database relative to institutional gifts.
- Facilitates key components of overall strategic plan to increase fundraising momentum to achieve revenue goals.
- Help manage portfolio of major foundation donors held by the Deputy Director of Development by writing grant reports, identifying new opportunities, and tracking deadlines.
- Perform development related functions in consultation with the finance team.
- Identify and pursue new institutional grant funding sources and collaborate on activities to ensure compliance
- Communicate effectively the achievements and the future goals of the programs to new and existing donors.
- Research and identify new funding opportunities and institutions
- Work with Deputy Director of Development to cultivate relationship with new donors
- Collaborate with other teams on the planning of development efforts and support any number of special projects related to development as needed.
- Manage and own grant kick off process to alert departments of new grants, deliverables attached, and upcoming reporting deadlines
- Assist with developing and executing the organization’s institutional grant awards strategy and uplifting Advancement Project’s brand
- Other duties that may be assigned
What you need to be considered:
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
- At least 3 years of writing experience, including 2 or more years of grant writing experience
- 2 years of grants management experience
- Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and follow-through skills necessary to successfully manage and coordinate projects, especially with other departments.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to advocate and communicate with authority.
- Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas to Development Team and Management Team, as well as compose precise, effective, and grammatically correct grant reports, applications, and letters of interest, as well as other funder materials and communication.
- Ability to read and comprehend funding proposals, funding agreements, performance analysis research and wealth profiles, and other impact analytics.
- Ability to periodically travel locally, regionally, and nationally.
- Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends, when needed.
