The Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts, located in Springfield, MA is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join the Finance Team.
 
Job Type and Other Details:
  • Type: Part-time (3/4), Non-Exempt
  • Reports to: Financial Controller
  • Hours: 30 hrs. per week
  • Schedule: Monday – Thursday (office closed on Fridays)
  • Work Location: On-site administrative offices in Springfield, MA
  • Remote Work: During COVID – 19 if required by mandate
  • Work Environment: Private office; social distancing practiced
  • Start Date: Fall of 2020
  • Pay Rate Range: $30-$32 per hour (commensurate with experience)

Position Description:
 
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for routine processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, monthly statements to congregations, reconciling payroll/benefits and related AR, and for assuring the accuracy of re-occurring monthly journal entries. She/he is responsible for reconciling credit card and PEX card charges, maintaining excel workbooks, reconciling assigned GL accounts, and producing annual 1099’s. The Staff Accountant will assist the Controller with coordinating the month end and year end close, and will provide assigned work-papers for the annual audit. Other duties or projects as assigned.

Education, Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in non-profit setting; working knowledge of accrual accounting.
  • Familiarity with accounting software packages. Financial Edge experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is essential.
  • Strong attention to detail required and ability to work well under time constraints.
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot to reconcile and resolve issues.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be flexible and able to take direction and follow through.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with helping to organize and provide work papers for annual audit.
