Printing Name Tags

What type of printer, or what have you found works best for printing names for events.  While we could pre-print, we also have walk ups.  In a system we are currently using we could print on site.  Not sure if anyone has figured out a travel printer/solution to this?

  • In my previous role at another Institution using a different
Advancement platform, we would pre-print nametags on a custom Avery
8 1/2 x 11" perforated nametag cardstock (that had our
organization's logo on it) ahead of time. We used clear plastic
nametag sleeves that were either magnets or clips (for those with
    pacemakers).

Once on-site, we would have laptops with Dymo label printers to
handle name tag corrections and walk-ups. The label media was
transparent and we would use the same type of template/font
formatting as the pre-printed. We had stacks of the custom
cardstock that was already separated and would print a transparent
label and then apply it to the cardstock and stuff into the nametag
    sleeve.

  • Was just asked to look into printer for name tags at the events.  Anyone have any suggestions of printers that work well or ones to avoid? BB said they can't recommend any particular one.

  • When we did this in my prior organization, we used Dymo
    LabelWriters:

  • We pre-print as much as we can and then have a Epson PictureMate PM-400 for reprints or walk-in.  We set up the template in Word and print from there.
