The Associate Director for Prospect Management & Research is responsible for building the Norfolk State University (NSU) Prospect Management program to include, but not limited to, development research and analytics. The Associate Director will develop and implement business processes and policies, and provide sophisticated business intelligence to expand Norfolk State University’s fundraising opportunities and results. The prospect management program will include prospect research, information technology, and analytics to model and identify the best philanthropic prospects. The Associate Director will recommend prospects for major gift officer portfolio composition, and support the achievement of both University and individual gift officer targeted goals. The Associate Director for Prospect Management & Research will also ensure the ongoing development of a robust prospect pipeline, including recommendations for advancing donors to higher levels of giving and planned gifts, and increasing the number of new donors annually. Responsibilities will include: 1. Create and implement a prospect management system to include processes and policies that identifies, screens and rates prospects, defines prospect management workflows, timelines and metrics. 2. Analyze confidential and relevant information to assess financial capacity and recommend cultivation strategies. Distinguish top tier donors with indicators that detail the donor’s propensity, affinity and capacity for major gifts to Norfolk State University. 3. Design a range of research reports on prospects based on data from the donor database, available financial records, organizational background, real estate ownership and other ethical intelligence gathering techniques providing high quality research on individuals, corporations, and foundations. 4. Recommend new prospects to major gift officer portfolios from multiple referral sources, matching prospect interest with fundraising priorities. This will include periodic review of CRM records to identify existing lower tier donors with major gift potential and to qualify major gift donors ready for their next major gift. 5. In consultation with the Assistant Vice President for Development, ensure prospects are guided through the philanthropic donor cycle through regular portfolio review sessions and moves management discussions with development officers. 6. Use prospect research to provide analytical support for new fundraising initiatives. 7. Develop relationships with fundraisers that foster an understanding of applications for prospect management.
