New Year's RE-solutions - The Follow Up

Options
Greetings!  I warned you that I would follow up on your resolutions, so here we go!  (Original thread here: https://community.blackbaud.com/forums/viewtopic/147/25654)

James, how's it going with your adjusted gift report?

Jen, how's the data scrubbing going?

Rachel, have you started recording training sessions?  Have you eaten more chocolate?

Brinkley, did you complete your RE and RE certifications?

Amy, have you moved to NXT?

Holly, how's the high-fiving going?

Louise, have you updated your procedure manual?

Loreen, have you cleaned up your constituent codes?

JoAnn, have you found more great music to listen to?  How's the procedure manual going?

Christine, have you finished scrubbing your database?  Did you complete the next level of certification?

Hope everyone has already accomplished their resolutions and is making more for the remainder of the year!

Thanks everyone,

Josh

  • Not well.  It was determined that the ROI for data scrubbing is not high enough to make this a priority or really do anything about it.  So it's back on my long-term to-do list for "when I have time".  Meanwhile, I'm still the sole data entry person, with instructions to train our Admin (who has no prior knowledge or experience with databases or data entry) in gift entry by the first week of June when I'm out for a week of vacation.

But we have a new Development Director starting Monday, so maybe she'll see where I'm coming from a little more.  Now I need to go back to organizing our storage space and vacuuming her new office...since those who had said they'd do it are out sick today (and yesterday, and possibly tomorrow).  Thanks for letting me vent a little.  =)

Josh, I'm a high-fiving maniac. But I can always do more. So, before I go any further, *virtual high five* for following up on your REsolutions post.

In addition to hearing about community members' progress towards their resolutions, I'd also like to understand if there's anything we can do to help you all acheive those goals.

Thanks again for being awesome, Josh. Keep up the solid work!

I'm with you on the "priority" problem, but as I know I'll never have a block of time available for bigger projects, I've been sort of cleaning as I go, with little interest in the "old" section of our database (i.e., no activity since I started 4 years ago).  After all, it's "MY" database, and I'll keep it as I like it (being, naturally, the queen of all data!)! I needed to do a bigger data update/change because we have a new Development Officer who wants to create her own group of Prospects - out with the hundreds of Constituent Codes of "Prospect" so she could start fresh!  That was "time consuming", but only to the tune of about 2 hours total. I just stayed late one evening when it was quiet and plowed through it - a good excuse to take a long lunch some other day.

Jen, here's hoping your new boss sees the value of clean data - mine certainly does! Of course, I'm still always fighting the fire that burns hottest on my desk rather than handling things proactively, but at least we keep raising more money - that's what counts.
  • So-so.  I have done a fair amount of scrubbing, enough to move to the next phase of scrub/search to ensure we are ready for our 50th anniversary in 18 months.  Eek!  18 months!  There really is no time in the spring for scrubbing or much of anything, it will have to wait until summer when things slow.

I began taking the the courses required for next level of certification, but only have squeezed one in.  I really wish all my years in the trenches counted more toward being allowed to take the next exam.  oh well.

    keep plugging along
