NetCommunity Email Lists

Options
Our database, Raiser's Edge is segemented for multiple email types: Email- Primary, Email-Home, Email- Campus, etc. However NetCommunity can only pull one static email type, Email-Home, in our case from our query.  We are currently missing a large number of our constiuents due to this issue and would love to have the option to make conditionial queries that were compatable with the NetCommunity email client. We understand we can uplaod a list we have pulled from Raiser's Edge and then manipualted, but then those emails are not tracked in Raiser's Edge. Any suggestions?

  • My suggestion is you change which email type NetC pulls - many orgs use "SPARK email" as the type.  Basically this type will be a duplicate of another type so that you can continue to track whether an email is a home email, or business, etc.

Routinely perform maintenance by running a query for any constituent with no import id for the phone/email type "SPARK", but that has another email type.  Export the constituent's preferred address import ID (unless you've upgraded to latest RE 7.94/.95) and the existing email address.  Now import that email address back onto the preferred with the type "SPARK"...yes, now you have a duplicate email address, but in the long run you'll find it manageable and you won't miss any constituents.

I'm curious what the maintenance picture looks like if the constituent is active with multiple different email addresses? (A decision has to be made about which of the other emails to import to type "Spark" and the decision isn't always going to be made easy if there is activity on both addresses... Also, how might you ensure a send to both in this case?)

  • If you separate out queries for email lists based on email type, you can then go to BBNC Admin - Sites & Settings and select ONE email type for mapping your upcoming email.  Send out that email message to one list.  Then go back to Sites & Settings, change the email mapping to the next type, and send out your next email to the next list.  I recommend waiting about an hour between each change in S&S.  This will allow you to send to the various email types you have in RE.

As an aside, OEX email allows mapping to THREE types of emails for messages, so I'm hopeful Blackbaud will implement this for BBNC as well since it's been on the wishlist for clients for years.
