Import Action - solicitor and multiple attributes

Options
I think I already know the answer (no), but in case I'm missing something... I'd like to import actions with a solicitor and multiple action attributes. I think I can import one attribute when creating the action via import, but not more than one. But why is solicitor not an available import field?

Only way that I see is to import actions, then export these actions with Action Import ID and add the solicitors and attributes at that point on separate lines of the csv file? A bit of a cumbersome process.

Thanks in advance,

Jane

  • Correct that you have to do a separate import for Action Solicitors, but you don't have to import - export - import.  Create your own action import ID and Include it on your original Action import.  I usually use a format like AC20150303-0001 (AC for Actions, Year, Month, Date, and a consecutive number).  Then use the same file for the solicitor import and only include/map the ACImportID and SoicitorID fields.
  • I had no idea I could make up my on ImportIDs! I will try this now. Thanks!
  • Maybe I'm not quite awake yet.  Am I missing something here?

If you can pull the population you want to add the action to into a query, why can't you globally add and add the action type, solictior, attributes all at once?
  • It may not be all exactly the same, and with global add you can only add exactly the same info.
  • I think you should be able to import multiple action attributes on the same import as the main information for the action. Just add an extra group of columns to your .csv for each additional attribute. Then when you come to map the fields you use the extension column  on the "3.Fields" tab to group them together.

So in this example you're importing a action Type "Mail", Status "Pending" with three attributes - Height, Weight and Age.

You'd set your csv up ike the top part of this picture.

Then when it comes to importing (bottom part of the picture) you map the "Action Attribute: Category" and "Action Attribute: description" fields and then the "Extensions" should number up automatically (but check this as it doesn't always work). As you can see by looking at the right hand Extension column this essentially groups them together into three groups "00","01","02".

This is obviously simplified, but the principle works if you also wanted to add more fields for the main Action, more field for each Attribute you wish to import (e.g. Comments, or Dates) and as many attributes as you want (well, I suppose, up to 100).

Don't know about the solicitor though, sorry.

  • this looks like a cool solution. I did a proof of concept exercise with the template I created last week, which worked, but it was 3 separate imports with the room for error if I didn't manipulate the spreadsheet data correctly. I'm definitely going to look at this deeper. Thanks a lot!
