Can e-mails be sent in Online Express if the e-mails are not in Raiser's Edge records?

  • Not currently.  This was discussed a bit at bbcon, and it was requested by many in attendance that there be a type of record that is not a full Constituent record but would retain name, email, and the history of OLX messages sent (currently on the Appeals Tab).  But, as far as I'm aware, that's not actually under consideration yet.

You can put multiple email addresses on one record, but you won't get the Appeals history (it will only add an Appeal tag for one email address of each Phone Type per Constituent Record).  Or you could try (I've not attempted this) creating a dummy Org record and put these addresses in as non-constituent Relationships with a specific Relationship Type, then include that Type when you send your messages.  Don't know how that affects the Appeal Tag situation, though, because it doesn't have anywhere to put that data on a non-constituent Relationship.

If you figure out something, or try something above, please post about your experiences.
  • For sending to email lists not currently in RE, we usually use another service, Vertical Response. They give nonprofits something like 10,000 free emails a month. It's a bit of a pain, having to go outside of OE, but at least it doesn't happen more than a couple times a year for us.

Quick follow-up on this item - "You can put multiple email addresses on one record, but you won't get the Appeals history (it will only add an Appeal tag for one email address of each Phone Type per Constituent Record)." - are you sure? Almost all of our email addresses are set to the same type, even if a donor has multiple email addresses and when you look at their appeals it shows history details for each email address. Just wanted to clarify..

  • Thank you for helping us find a solution!

Oh, that's been fixed!  Yay!  It was doing this at one point...but I couldn't begin to remember when that was.  =)
