Leadership Metrics

Options
Hello, I'm fairly new to Raiser's Edge and by new I have only been on it for a month. My office is trying to implement some metrics to provide to leadership to show our progress.I have been running some queries to find some of these and also incorporating some reports. I am having some trouble finding two metrics, $10,000+ Gift Renewals (Gave $10,000 in consecutive fiscal years). I am having to find this for FY13, 14, 15, and YTD16. Currently, my criteria is: Gift greater than or equal to $10,000 with gift date between FY (July-June), and I'm pulling name on output to sort by. What I have done is run it for each individual FY and combine all years in a excel document, but I was wondering if there is a simplier way to accomplish this. For the other metric I'm trying to find $10,000 + New Major Donors (Cumulative giving) for the same fiscal years. If anyone can steer me into the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

  • To set this up in a query, you'd want to to a constituent query and go to Summary Information > Summary For Gift > Total Number of Gifts (or Total Gift Amount if you're looking for yearly total and not individual gifts of $10k+ ... couldn't tell which you were talking about from your original post).

If you're doing total number of gifts, then on the Criteria tab, choose "greater than or equal to" and set the value as 0. If you're doing the total amount of gifts, then in the Critera tab, choose "greater than or equal to" and set the value as 10,000.

In the filter tab, select your date range and your gift type. Gift type is super important, because if you don't tell it otherwise, it will count pledges and payments on pledges separately instead of counting one or the other. Same goes for recurring-gift-pay-cash and recurring gift.

Then, select the same criteria a second time and set up the criteria for a different fiscal year. Make sure this second criteria gets an AND statement instead of an OR statement (it'll default to OR when you select the same criteria multiple times. Just do this as many times as you need to, onece for every consecutive fiscal year you want to search for.

For your new major donors, I guess it depends on how you categorize "new." The easiest way to do it would be to find the summary for total giving for, say, last fiscal year and limit it by people who gave $10k+, and then do a summary for whatever previous fiscal years you want to limit by and make sure that their total giving is less than $10k in your Criteria tab .

Does this make sense? Discussing these without pictures can be a little confusing.
  • All you need is a query that looks for gifts greater than or equal to $10,000.

Include that query in the canned report:  Analytical Reports --> Consecutive Years Report.

Utlize the dates and other filters,  you will get a list of folks and how many years they have given at that level and above and for how many years.  If you need more detailed info on these folks, that report can be exported to a Query and you can then use Export to pull whatever details you want on each donor.
  • The Consecutive Years Report that Christine mentions works great if you are looking by calendar year.  If you are looking by a fiscal year  this report does not work so well.

I have my query set up very simalar to Ryan's, then I also have an  export that pulls total gift summary by dates in the same manner Ryan set it up in the query.
