I am looking at trying to clean up the relationship tab for our system and would like to mass change relationship information to dramatically reduce the number of options we have to identify relationships. An example would be to try and change all the RE records that identify the relationship as mother, father, parents, etc. to just all say parent. Is this a field that is available in the mass change area. My goal is to make them uniform and thus eliminate duplicate entries when doing an import as it is seeing them as new records since each time depending on who is entering the information they are using a different title. I would then mark all the other options in the system as inactive.

I would use Table Cleanup in Config - you are able to select multiple entries to be replaced by "Parent" at the same time, and you can also opt to delete the old values from the table at the same time.

Some other ways to simplify this would be to use Sibling instead of brother or sister, and Child instead of son or daughter, and Spouse in place of husband/wife.

What I'm trying to figure out is the breakpoint of where you'd want to have an Other or even a Relative relationship type? Would you consider a step-brother a Sibling? Would a second cousin be Other or Relative?

For things that aren't obvious, you could have a Note type called Relationships which could be referenced with the details.
