EFT and Direct Debits

We just purchased and have just started using EFT for our credit cards and direct debit transactions.  We also have Blackbaud Merchant Services to process these.

If I am in a batch of Direct Debits and I did the EFT Transmission files, how long does it typically take to come back?  I did an EFT transmission file this morning for our outstanding Direct debit transactions, and whenever I open the batch it says it's waiting for an answer from our processor - this has been since this morning.

How long does it typically take to go through the bank and come back?  Is this a process that will happen frequently?   We are approaching our busy campaign time and I don't want to see any payments slip through the cracks when there's a large volume to process.

  • We did a test transaction and the EFt transmission file went through the next day. The batch record in Raiser's Edge didn't change, however - we went into BBMS and check that the transaction was completed.



    Nothnig changed on the batch record in RE until the batch was posted.

  • I've found mine complete after 24 hours. NOTE:  It will ask you every time you open the batch if you want to wait and see if the EFTs cleared. Don't wait for a time when you open the batch and that isn't there - there won't be one!
  • We’ll go back in the batch the next day and choose “Yes, I’ll wait”.  If you see a gift attribute “REGiftTransactionID” populated, it went through; however you don’t know if it rejects, only that it went though.  So we make sure to check the BBMS website that each charge says “Approved.”
