refresh query list

Options
I really like the query list concept in RE. However, I am wondering if there is a way to refresh a query List? I know how to refresh a static query but it doesn't appear there is a way to refresh a static query list?

Per https://kb.blackbaud.com/articles/Article/60095  "NOTE: The results of a query list are considered Static, and will not change unless you manually edit the list to add or remove constituents."  it doesn't sound like you can change by 'refresh'.   Maybe someone has figured out a way to do it.

Does it refresh when you open it?  The query list I opened listed that it had over 2000 records, but when I opened it, it only pulled 1800.  Am guessing that's based on the change in criteria used to pull it.

Sorry, not much help as I don't use the query lists too much.
  • Queries are really a filtering tool, more than a final working list.  But it depends on why type of query (constituent, gift, relationship, etc) and what you are using it for.

The only way I know of to refresh a Static Query is to run it again.  A Dynamic Query will change every time you run it.  If the records have had any changes and no longer or do meet the criteria in the query then they will drop off or be added.  Some projects really require a Static query and in some projects that archival info is useful so keeping several dated static queries is helpful.
  • The point of a Query List (as opposed to a Dynamic or Static Query) is to be able to manually manipulate it, adding or removing records as desired.  If you refreshed it then you'd lose all the manual changes you'd made, defeating the purpose.
  • Thanks everyone.  I am new to RE and your input is helpful. I know about static queries and have really moved into using export for my detailed reporting. I liked the giving history feature to the right of the Query List. John hit the nail on the head about editing a Query List. Of course refresh would loss the edits.
