Minimal form without Forcing online user registration

Options
I wish to create a basic signup form, that would collect say, firstname, lastname, and email address. This info should then be automatically waiting in RE's online community plugin for processing into RE.

I can get close; however, the deal breaker is, the signup form also adds the online user registration form fields (create username/create password, etc). This is far too many hurdles for what should be a simple 'sign up for our newsletter' form.

I know I can create a simple 'common' type form with the minimal fields I want, but this form type does not dynamically connect to RE, it creates a standalone mailing list that would have to be exported from SPARK then imported manually into RE. This isn't practical.

I am rather perplexed about this, since we are talking about a very basic marketing approach; which is to acquire and process an email address, quickly, simply.

  • BBNC relies far too much on users registering for the site. Some of my users are interested in this, but many just want name and email and to be done with it.
  • Hi,

We have done this before with NetCommunity. A basic sign up form which asks for name and email. It then fills in the full registration form for them in the background (they don't see this) and puts the data into first name, last name, email plus generates a username and password for them.

The upshot is that they just enter name and email and click signup.

They get a nice email saying thank you for signing up and here are your username and password in case you want them later. The sign up also goes into Raiser's Edge as you want it to (normal sign up)

Let us know if you would want similar. We provide by the hour consultancy to do just this and this is only one hours work we suspect so will be very cheap.

    Cheers

  • Hello John,

I'm changing this topic to an idea so it can be tracked as a possible future feature.

    Thanks!

  • I agree that the process can be intimidating to users simply looking to sign-up for emails--and I hope that the users can have the functionality without having to hire third-party vendors.
  • Here's what I had to do when I found NC couldn't let me have people just enter their email address & name: I have them click to "sign up" and then it opens an email to me (our "info" email) and have them send me an email, which I would then have to enter into our database and the Excel list of email addresses, which i then have to import into my NC email list tab. This process is NOT ideal and i really think BB needs to fix this problem, as it SHOULD be automated.
  • I am surprised that this is not an option on a BBNC website - We would like to have this option for our supporters - to sign up for emails with email address and name. We do not need more members with passwords. And even though Warren (above) offers to do this at a reasonable rate - it seems like it should be part of the service offered by Blackbaud. Hope you all are working to make it happen!

Please teach BB how to do this as one of their excuses as to why they are not implementing the idea:

"...RE integration design that was challenging..."

    What does this mean?

Basically what I am looking for, and what I'm assuming others are looking for is a basic form that does what a donation form or event registration does in terms of creating a constituent record in RE.
