Has anyone used cardswipe technology (like a Square) at their walk?

  • Jeremy,

We haven't used cardswipe technology at a walk but we have used it for a fundraising event. Our fundraising team reported several challenges in doing so. The biggest challenge seemed to be the time it took to have the money released from the company who owned the cardswipe technology to our organization.

I am following this post to see if others have any other feedback!

    Best of luck to you.
  • We tested Blackbaud Mobilepay at an event, but not at a teamraiser. From what I hear it went well. But this is a Raiser's Edge thing, not a Luminate product, so I'm not sure that there would be any direct integration at all with TR - at least as far as soft crediting donations to participants, or fees as registrations. But I would contact my CSM about that, I'm not really sure.

I believe the disbursement of funds from BB is done weekly.

  • We have used the Blackbaud Mobile Pay device at our TeamRaiser event. For some people who just can not seem to get how to donate to their own page, it is a good way to get their donation.

It is labor intensive, but if someone wants to swipe their credit card and have it count toward their fundraising page, then we swipe the card, but also have them fill out a quick paper form with their name, email, and dollar amount. Then, later, we enter an offline credit to their page (so that their progress meter and badges will be correct).
  • We have used Blackbaud Mobilepay for last minute donations/registrations at the site for our TeamRaiser (and other events). We also had the donors fill out a short form so we could match/enter the gift offline in the system. It works great and is more secure than cc's on paper forms, and you get immediate confirmation, so no calling people with messy handwriting. With the Blackbaud product, you also get more of the donor information with the payment than you do with Square.
  • Thanks for all these responses - very much appreciated. I wonder if it would make sense to just use a few iPads and have people enter credit cards as offline gifts via TeamRaiser - then you could apply it directly to their page/team they want to support. More thinking to do, I guess!
