Working with Sage MIP

Options
Hi there!

I was wondering if anyone out there has experience exporting information to be uploaded into MIP software. Currently we are entering all of our gifts in Development and printing reports where they can enter everything again in Finance, which is taking up a lot of everyone's time. If anyone has any experience creating exports for use with MIP I'd greatly appreciate any information.

Thank you!!

  • I did some consulting for an organization that used Sage, and I have to say, importing into MIP is not a simple process! They may have improved it in the last couple of years, since Sage was acquired by a private equity firm and became Abila, but as far as I know, it will probably still be a challenge for your Finance department.

The good news is that your side of it, exporting the information from Raiser's Edge, is the easy part! Just find out which data fields they need to get into MIP, and export them into excel as a CSV file. But the Finance team will have a lot of work to do to set up the import in MIP. It's mostly one-time set up, then as long as their needs don't change much they can relatively easily import the files you send them. But again, that initial set up can be a doozy, especially creating a definition file that maps all the fields in your spreadsheet to their corresponding fields in MIP using special, secret MIP language and formats.

Here is a document (that's at least a couple of years old) on the MIP import process:

    kb.abila.com/sites/kb/files/269020_faq-guide_for_basic_data_import.doc

They can probably find more up-to-date information in Abila's knowledgebase. Anyway, good luck to your Finance department!!
