Changing Gift Date AFTER batch is committed

There are some things that can be changed after a batch is committed. Gift date and gift post date can be changed.  But most of those options for global change are no longer available once gifts are posted.  Committing and posting are two separate processes for the gift record.

If your gifts are not posted yet, you can do a global change of the dates (assuming user rights to global change).

Once gifts are posted I think your best option might be to export the gift records, change the dates and import them back in.  

 

 Will he still be able to change the dates with an import if they are read only?  We don't post to GL so I'm not sure.  I know some things you can't change with import (like batch number or gift type).

One of my fave tricks is to mark the batch as recurring and then make your change and commit again.  You'd have to delete the first set of gifts and figure out how this will work for your business office.

 Is it possible that you don't have rights to edit that field?

Just to comment on Dawn's post - from my experience.  I want to link to the query first before entering any info to change.  If you don't remember to do it after entering your data to change, every record will be changed.  I try to make it a matter of practice to always enter the query first and then double check it again after entering data.

It should be possible to change the Gift Date and GL Post Date (if that matters) via a global change - if you have rights to do so. What I usually do in that situation is create a gift query with the gift batch number as the criteria and use that in my global change. That's assuming you want all your gift dates to be the same. I also recommend exporting the original gift batch to Excel before making a change, just in case something goes wrong.
