Relationships, Solicitors, Event guests

Wondering what you all do when you get a bunch of names from someone affiliated with your organization (non-staff person).

When do you make them have his/her own record?

Do you add them as relationship to the person who gave the name?  Would you mark that person as a solicitor?

What about if the person was just a guest of someone at an event?

Trying to come-up with a table to help direct/standardize what we do

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Answer: it depends. Why are they giving them to you? Do they expect you to start mailing to these constituents (newsletter, solicitations, etc.) You have to ask these questions ANY time you get a new name you put into your database. If only adding them as relationshios, I see no purpose for adding at all. The only good reason to add new names to your database is if they are possible prospects. If the event was for your org then it makes sense that the org will follow up with news, letters, etc. after you have attended.
