Seeing/Testing Conditionals

Options

We are just starting to get into using conditionals in outgoing emails, but cannot seem to figure how we go about testing emails in a way to see all of the conditionals set, so that we can assure they all format correctly depending on who sees them. How is the easiest way to be able to see them?

  • As annoying as this would be, I'd probably just create multiple user accounts with the different conditional interests you want - same way I tested conditionals in the subscription process.  That way you can see exactly what your recipient will see.  For an email, I'd want to see it in each inbox without the potential breaking that forward can bring in to be absolutely certain.

Well, I had given thought to multiple email user accounts, but am hoping that a product like Convio has a better, more simple way to accomplish this feat.

  • I had this same question. Does anyone from Convio have a recommendation?

This is what the Reviewers List is for -- it does require that you use multiple email accounts whose constituent records meet the various conditions you've used. So, if your conditional is based on the constituent's state, create constituent records in each state you are testing for, and add those records to the Reviewers List. One tip -- using gmail, you can reuse a single email address multiple times, e.g. if you create a gmail account myaccount@gmail.com, you can use myaccount+texas@gmail.com, myaccount+arizona@gmail.com, etc. and they will all go to your one inbox. You can also, then, setup gmail to forward all of the messages to your Outlook email, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. for complete email client testing.

  • The problem I'm having here is that when I send out a test, everyone who receives the test receives it as if it were sent to my admin account. It doesn't factor in their settings or information. Any other ideas about how to test this?

Use the reviewer list (see Noah's post).

  • Jim Drey:

Use the reviewer list (see Noah's post).

Thanks. I've tried that with no luck in the past. Aside from that, this a teamraiser coaching email, and I'm not seeing an option to send it to a reviewer list.

There is step 6, but apparently that doesn't do what the Reviewer List in a regular email does.

What if you just created a temporary quick email, and tested your conditional there?

Fun URL trick of the week:

Under the hood, Coaching Emails are really no different than Email Campaigns. If you edit your Coaching Email, in the URL you'll see an ec_id (Email Campaign id) and em_id (Email Message id). Using those, you can hack the URL of the Email Campaigns Send Review Email step, like so:

    https://secure2.convio.net/shortname/admin/CommCenter?email=em_edit6&ec_id=XXXX&action=edit&em_id=YYYY.Y

(Where secure2.convio.net/shortname is your organization's secure URL, XXXX is your ec_id, and YYYY.Y is your em_id.)

From there you can use the Reviewer List as usual!

    Very cool trick.

Someone should make a feature request to add the Reviewer List step to the coaching email UI.

Thanks Heather, I don't have access yet. My AM is on leave. Please do hook me up. Thanks!

YES! I've requested the Ideas access for you. (case 331799)

Once you're enabled, you'll see Ideas as a tab in the Support area.

The cool thing about Ideas is that you can see all of the other thoughts from other Convio users and vote (or demote) them to let us know which you’d like to prioritize. It’s still not a guarantee for development but is a great way to get the attention of our Product Managers.

We want to move the system and serve what means the most to you so it’s a great tool for you to voice your opinion!

Hope you like it as much as I do!

    Heather
