Do you offer contests to encourage registration or fundraising? Please share succes stories!

We offer a wide array of prizes/contests/discounts.  For registration, we use a discount policy--the farther away from event day, the bigger the discount. It's very popular. We offer prizes on almost a weekly basis for fundraising, plus prizes at milestone levels. It seems every major walk/run uses this strategy.  Our most popular prize is probably our limted edition "hoodie" with custom artwork. Hoodies are very popular here.

We utilize discounts for Early Registration for the most part.  However, in the past we have used incentives such as "Register by April 1 and you will be entered to win an iPad."  They definitely helped in the years that we had no registration fees.

Since we implemented a registration fee a few years ago, we have just found that the discounts work better for us.  Especially the week before they end!  We send an email saying that the Early Bird Discounts ends this Saturday and we see a surge of registrations.  Hope that helps!
