Discount Code Error

Options

We have a TeamRaiser site with a parent event (blueprint) and multiple event site off of it. When it was created each site had one discount code that we've edited for each site and they've all worked fine. Now we need additional discount codes for some of those sites and we keep getting errors when trying to register with those codes. We are copying everything that was done in the original discount code but nothing we try makes the new ones work.

The codes are 100% off, each has a limited number of registrations, can be used multiple times by the same person, and has a specific end date.

I went to see if I created an additional discount code in the parent blueprint and pushed the changes if that would set an additional code for us to use on each site, but the changes have just been sitting in the que.

Any thoughts?

  • Hi Julia,

This is not the issue with the newly created discount itself, but when initial push has been made on a blueprint to its children anything new  (be it a new discount, or autoresponders, etc) created on that blueprint after that will never get pushed to the children as that was not part of the original contrary to our perception of blueprint logically.

You still could add the discount to your child events, but this would likely have to be done either manually or through automaton of some sort.

There's a good tool that I have been using to do that sort of automaton called "iMacros"  -- it's a browser plugin (Firefox is the one I used with).  With iMacros -- it takes javascript or its native scripting, combine with the .csv file you can make that happen.

In this case the CSV file will be used to hold the fr_id of your child teamraisers so that the iMacros know what to loop over.

Here's the link to that plugin -

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/imacros-for-firefox/

and here's the how-to documentation included on the wiki

    Hope it helps,

    Thank you, Daniel.

Unfortunately we have tried entering them manually as we only need one or two discount codes on some of the children sites, but those manual ones have not been working. We keep getting an error saying the code is invalid, but we've copied what was done on the original one exactly, so I don't know what the problem is.

You are always welcome Julia !

by the way -- just trying to clarify about the "code is invalid"  error message -- is that happening on the public facing registration page ? or is that happening on the backend (convio admin page -- as you are trying to finalize the discount code?)

1.) If it's on the registration page where user couldn't apply the code -- the culprit would likely be that you need to associate the discount with all participant types associated to that event.  On the backend click on the "Associate" link to associate / re-associate them with all the available / valid participant types on that teamraiser.

Caveat: adding / creating new discount doesn't necessarily mean that it gets associated to them automatically.

2.) If the error code is on the backend Convio admin -- hmm the only thing I could think of is either the name of the discount is the same (which the original and clone should not have same name) or either the expiration date / activation period is not properly defined.  But if this is the case -- I would probably open a support ticket for the Convio engineer to investigate.

    regards,

    Daniel
