  • @Crystal Bruce Not really sure yet how it will enhance my productivity. My intuition is to always open the query first, review the criteria and view (or at least eye ball) the results. Then export it. It seems to download faster (thus accessing the list faster). This would be helpful when, after reviewing a downloaded list, you decided to change criteria and export again.

  • @Crystal Bruce Since we are not quite on RE NXT yet-little tough to answer but I am looking forward to this feature as it will allow me to run an export, move on to something else and get notificed when it is available rather than tracking it back down.

Maybe I am not understanding and looking in the wrong area…the Query main page where the queries are all listed and I click on the ellipsis to the left of a Query and select Export from the list … they didn't download directly into my downloads folder. I had to find the area within web view that holds the download for that Query and then download it from there.

Also, when exporting from the main Query main page I exported 3 different Queries to download. It was clunky. I didn't really know which of those I was downloading as the page just shows generic text. I wasn't sure I received all those I initiated, either.

Hopefully they will upgrade this area to be like it is in Lists where I can view a list of the exported Lists.

  • @Crystal Bruce I definitely like this as this is much faster than the export in DB view. However, there are still duplicate records in the query results export , so we still need a ‘proper’ export that would eliminate any dupe results.

  • @Crystal Bruce
The export feature is very convenient! It is nice that it runs in the background while I'm able to work on other tasks.

  • @Crystal Bruce
This is a very convenient feature, I especially like that I can keep working while it is running.

  • @Crystal Bruce. Nice feature, but I'm wondering how a lot of my more complex ones that I currently have to run from export will work for this. Eg. when an output includes the fundraiser name, I have to use export to choose the current fundraiser of a certain type. When I export from webview query, I have all the fundraisers both current and former, and then have to clean them up in Excel making it way more time consuming

  • @Crystal Bruce When I'm using query's to clean up our data, the excel exports make it really easy to track my progress in the spreadsheet.

  • @Crystal Bruce Asynchronous export has been a wash in terms of productivity. In some ways, it's helped; in others, it hasn't. It's nice when you don't have to wait to specify the file location for a query export, but it doesn't save any time at all if we have to move the file afterwards. If we could optionally specify the download location for each file--or leave it at the default by taking no action--that would be idea and definitely help with productivity.

  • @Crystal Bruce
The new export functionality makes the export quicker to access, and it feels more like a microsoft experience, so less training required for novice users.

  • @Crystal Bruce
I love that I can keep working or work on something else while it is running.

  • @Crystal Bruce

able to download as excel file and save a step

  • @Crystal Bruce It was easy to see the download icon pop up in the browser and with one click I was able to open it, rather than have to go find it in a specific folder.

  • @Crystal Bruce Exporting in this way is simpler and easier to come back to files once they are finished.

  • @Crystal Bruce It's quicker than having to select where it's going to be downloaded to, and it will add a number to the end of the file name if it's a duplicate, rather than overwriting an existing download, which I like. However, not being able to name it before it downloads is a little annoying.

  • @Crystal Bruce easy to download the query to Excel

@Crystal Bruce I like the idea of being able to run a query in the background. I am known for having multiple tabs of RENXT open in my browser so I am not sure how much this will help productivity. I do like that I would be able to just have Query open in one tab, though, and running one query while doing something else on another. I will test it more thoroughly once month-end arrives next week to see how things help timewise.

  • @Crystal Bruce the asynchronous export is super helpful so I don't have to sit and wait until it is done before I move onto another query or task!

  • @Crystal Bruce Its quicker/easier. One less step.

  • @Crystal Bruce, not having to double check the export file path before actually exporting is nice. In database view, I have to download it to my local C drive because the system won't let me save it anywhere else. I notice that it's a .csv file. Will there be an option in the future to select a different file type, or will it always be .csv?

  • @Crystal Bruce
I'm not seeing anything called “asynchronous export," but I need to use Exports in database view to export most queries rather than exporting directly from the query. There is an “Export” button at the bottom of the queries in web view. That is quick and easy, but not much more than exporting a query in database view.

  • @Crystal Bruce seems to be a simpler process and saves a number of steps.

  • @Crystal Bruce I jumped the gun and mentioned this in task #1 - but yes, this is more streamlined. The query example I used was small enough that the download time wasn't noticable - so productivity wise didn't make a huge amount of difference. For larger queries that would definitely save some time though, especially if I need to run multiple exports.

  • @Crystal Bruce So much easier and so many fewer clicks! I may like the option in the future to choose which folder these downloads go to, to make sure its going to a secure folder from the beginning but for now the simplicity of the export function is going to help productivity and ease of accessing files.

  • @Crystal Bruce it's definitely easier to find and I don't mind grabbing the results from my downloads folder because it's quicker to move to my desired folder than navigating to it on databaseview. It maybe shaves a second or two, but the processing time puts it back on.

@Crystal Bruce I do love being able to let downloads happen and being able to work on a different tab and being notified! As a person that is red flag driven and works with lots of tabs open - I would love it if it showed up with my other notifications by the bell at the top right bar when it is done.

  • @Crystal Bruce I like that there are fewer clicks needed although the overall time is probably the same by the time I move the downloaded file to the folder I save my exports in. It is nice to be able to export from the context menu though.

  • @Crystal Bruce One less click to get the information as quickly as possible. Still not as fast as database view, but its one less click.
