Auto-fill surveys

Options

At the moment, users are only placed in a logged-in status on our website if they fill out a survey or make a donation, or buy something.

I would like to know if there is a way to take advantage of this so that after they fill out one survey, if they fill out another afterwards, it would auto-populate the fields for them?

Christian

p.s. - at some point in the past, my website used to this, and after a major convio upgrade, this behavior ceased.

  • That seems weird. I just tested on our site, and if you are logged in fields are definitely auto populated (I looked at donations, surveys and advocacy).

Are you absolutely sure they are actually logged in? I know with surveys there is a setting whereby they can be logged in or not logged in after they fill something out. Although I feel like it didn't always work 100% consistently (they weren't always logged in when I wanted them to be), it's been a while since I tested it.

I think the short answer is that they aren't actually being logged in after they fill out the survey. Are the two surveys being filled out in the same session? I don't know for sure, but I'd bet that if a user isn't logging in directly with username and password, the "log in" is only a session-based one rather than persistent, so if they fill out a survey, go away or idle for a while and come back, they won't be logged in anymore and none of the fields will auto-populate.

  • I'm making a daisy chain of test surveys now to see what happens.

My memory is that around Nov 2007, Convio upgraded the backend and the default behavior newly created surveys for changed. I remember this because I set up a trouble ticket with them to investigate why people kept having to re-enter information after filling out one survey and then filling out another.

My recollection was that we sort of figured out the problem, and then it stopped working. I'm revisiting the issue now because of our site-redesign.

I'm not sure if this exactly what you are looking for, but we solved the problem of contact information not being auto-populated in a survey (after log-in) by unchecking "Yes this is a secure survey). HTH, bryce
