New Email Builder: Image Alignment, Header Styles and Padding, Column ID

The new e-mail builder allows for inputting images with text in the settings. The image leads me to believe that it would allow for text wrapped nicely around images but it's rendered as 2 columns with text on left and image centered oddly in the middle. Has anyone gotten this to render per the image alignment image?

    I also added a comment to my idea to add bulleted/numbered lists, which i'm shocked isn't a feature already given that it's in almost every wysiwyg editor out there.

    So my wishlist includes:

    We're looking for a few improvements to the email builder:

    • Fix Inline Images so that text can wrap nicely around images. Would probably necessitate ability to put a little padding around the image so it looks nice.
    • Ability to have bulleted lists in new builder content. This is kind of paramount to nonprofit messaging.
    • Ability to define an ID for columns and images. This would allow us to target some styling (including dark mode styles) utilizing the new builder.
    • Ability to define Headers. Right now, all text is inserted as paragraph tags so margins and line-height looks awful.
    • Padding Selection: Current builder only allows for setting padding for a column once (i.e. padding: 5px;). We need to be able to set padding individually for top, bottom, left, right.
    • Ability to copy e-mails from one campaign to another. There's currently not a way to create an email template in the new builder and re-use it.

    I have a question regarding your image wrapping issue. Have you seen what it looks like when you view it in a responsive format? Meaning, have you seen it in a mobile view?

    @Cisco Rendon , yes. I have sent It to our email on acid account and in every scenario the image is broken into columns and sized oddly Instead of wrapping the text.

    Because technically speaking you can't. Email designs are not built the same as webpages, email designs are coded in a table format. Webpages are coded in an html5 format using containers, divs, paragraphs, and so many more rich attributes and id's. That is why you will never be able wrap words around images. Email design is still far behind in tech than web dev. Same concept as why you can't embed videos in an email, but you can in a web page.

    @Cisco Rendon Thanks for your input! Yes - I am pretty familiar with the intricacies of coding email. The image in the builder, indicates that wrapped text is possible vs. 2-column (which is absolutely possible and great in the new builder). I was just curious if anyone else has been able to get it worked as displayed.

    Other email builders also allow for wrapped text and setting the margin around the image.

    @Hilary Engelbrecht @Cisco Rendon What I've seen in other email builders is the ability to insert blocks next to one another (instead of restrictive columns). So you can have a text block next to an image block.

    I appreciate this post as I didn't realize the image next to text was even an option. You wouldn't know that was possible because there is Text Only and Image Only in the content section of the builder.

    Also, yes, bullets, please! I'd also like to see image details in the library preview, like size.

    You can do bullet and numbered list:

    to get it, just type in “- this is first bullet” and hit enter, the editor will put in the bullet.

    for numbered list “1. this is a number list” and hit enter, the editor will put in the numbering bullet.

    notice that the first bullet (or numbered list) is empty and 2nd one is the first line of text you type, you can fix that after the bullet show up

    Hi there, thank you for your feedback. I bet there are email design platforms that do have that feature but those tools are flawed, especially when you are using a word-wrap in an email design.
    Not trying to put down BB's wysiwyg / developer tool, just trying to bring to light that the word-wrap image styling is not the best when it comes to mobile viewing, In our organization, of all the emails sent to the thousands of constituents, 47% of our recipients open their emails from their mobile devices. If it does not look good in on mobile then it's back to the marketing department. Please start from a mobile first viewing then scale up from there. Use the standard table rows and table columns, 600 pixel view width, side by side it looks great. Smaller than 600 pixels, let the word fall immediately under the image. Everything will look great…

    I don't use mailchimp nor have an account, however, I did read the link you posted, where it said:

    When I google for this, it appears that the Mailchimp “new editor" does not allow wrapping text around image, and the new editor is more about mobile friendly, which @Cisco Rendon is trying to say: Wrapping text around image is not particularly good design for mobile where your reader is going to be looking at the email in a portriat view, which basically renders any attempt to have an image and then have text to its side that wraps around not a good mobile experience.

    I get a lot of “promotion” email (i'm sure everyone does too, and I have not found any email that has image with text wrapping.

    I would have wished Blackbaud new email editor to be truly more powerful and more capable in outlook client compatibility (i.e. round button coding for outlook client is very different and require MSO coding). However, given the new editor appears to be “brought” from another company (Tiny), I guess our hope will have to wait

    How would a user know that? Also, that did not work for me. The editor should have the icons for bullets and numbered bullets.

    Definitely not arguing in Blackbaud's benefits here. I totally agree that no one would have known and that it should have been an icon on the toolbar.

    However, just wanted to let you know that you can do bulleted/numbered list until Blackbaud decides to do better.
