Emails not displaying properly in Outlook 2007

Options

I recently upgraded to Outlook 2007 and noticed that when I test some of my e-mail messages, they show up differently in Outlook 2007 than they do in 2003 or any other email viewer that we test. This is consistent with several of the stationaries that we use. Does anyone have any tips on how we can code the stationary and/or e-mail so that it is displayed properly in this version of Outlook?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

  • We discovered this problem a couple months ago as well. Unfortunately for any email marketers, there is nothing you can do. Microsoft really went backwards with their new release of Outlook for Windows Vista and it simply doesn't support a lot of HTML functionality that it used to. You can find many articles online about this problem that people are struggling with.

Generally though, if you can get your email to where it looks good in Outlook 2007, then you can be pretty sure it'll look good in other email clients too. That gives you your main platform to test in.

  • This topic came up in the Best Practices forum a little while ago as well, and I found some useful links that can help when working with emails in Outlook 200 - you can check that thread out here: .

  • The main issue is that with Outlook 2007 Microsoft decided to use Word as it's html rendering engine. They claim to have done this for securit reasons. The end result is that Outlook 2007 is one of the worst offenders when it comes to properly rendering an email. Here's a great guide that outlines css compatability across multiple platforms so you're not flying blind.
