Adding Memorial or Honor Giving Fields to Donation Form

Options

I am attempting to add honor giving fields to my donation form. There is one that says Name of person to Notify (or something like that). How does this field work? If what I want to do is have a way for a donor to let a family member know that they have donated in the name of someone what is the best way to do this? With an ecard? If so do I add those fields or somehow link that to the Donation form?

  • Hi Jessica,

The honor fields in Convio donation forms are fields that will allow the donor to provide you with information about who they are honoring with their gift; however, Convio will not automatically contact an individual who is being honored - You would need to run a report to see how the donors have answered that question on the form, and then you could contact the honoree if you would like to. If you add honor fields to a donation form, then you will be able to see the answers to those questions when you run the "Donations by Transaction" report. (You will need to download the report to see these responses).

If you would like to offer donors a way to contact someone that they are honoring, an eCard is the best solution, because it gives the donor an easy way to create a message and send it to their honoree directly from your site. When you are creating a donation form, you can include the eCard fields on the donation form itself, allowing the donor to fill out the eCard message while making a donation. Another way to provide an eCard option to your donors would be to create a link to an eCard campaign in the Donation Thank you page. That way, the donor can complete their donation and then if they would like to, they can click to fill out their message and send their eCard. In either case, you will need to make sure that you have created a stationery for the eCard.

We are revamping our website and wanting instructions on adding in honorarium and designated giving fields. I've looked at the suggested thread and related conversations regarding this topic but I do not see anything about how you technically insert these fields to your site. What do I need or where do I go to set this up? Thanks.

    Hi Amber,

The steps to add these fields to your donation form are below. Keep in mind also that editing Donation Forms in Convio is something that has a learning curve. Don't forget about the training resources available on the Convio Customer Center ( (main training page with links to eLearning classes) (this page has recorded training sessions that you can listen to whenever you have the time).

Steps for adding fields to a donation form:

    - Log in as Admin

    - Navigate to Fundraising >> Donation Management

    - Click "Manage" next to the Donation Campaign you would like to work on

    - Click "Edit" next to the Donation Form that you would like to add fields to

    - on the left hand side of the screen you should see the Process Navigator with several steps. Click on step 3 "Design Donor Screens"

    - Click on "Edit" next to the "Donation Form" page

    - On this screen you will see two boxes. On the right hand side, there is a list of all of the fields that are currently on your donation form, on the left hand side you will see a list of all the different elements that are available to be added to your donation form.

    - Scroll down through this list on the left, and look for the fields that are called "Honor Gift Fields"

    - From there, you should be able to highlight those fields (one at a time) and click to "Add" them to your donation form.

    - Save your changes, and preview your donation form.

In the Donations training class (eLearning) this is covered in a little bit more detail. If you are attending a live eLearning class, you would also be able to ask the instructor further questions. I hope this helps. Please update this post if I can provide more info here.

    Hey Adam,

I was actually just trying to edit our generic donation page to include a radio button choice for Memorial or Honor giving (because right now we just have a free text field, and recently we incorrectly memorialized a person we thought was dead -- but she wasn't). Is it possible to make this a choice? I can't figure out how to make that change to our current page.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

There is a field you can add called "Honor Gift - Type". It is a dropdowm menu that gives two options: In memory of or In honor of. Also, there is hint language that says "Choose the memorial gift only if the person you are honoring is deceased." This should help prevent confusion on whether the person being honored is deceased.

    Thanks,

    Rachael
