Does anyone offer content in a foreign language?

Options

We would like to offer some of the content on our website in Spanish. We are not thinking of a full blown Spanish site just some of our key content and not the Convio interface, just HTML pages. Is anyone doing this and if so, do you have any insights (pros/cons) that you could share with me?

Thanks,

  • One way of doing this is to create a folder in your site structure that is In Spanish folder to store all of your foreign language pages. This gives you the flexibility over time to be able to expand this to a mirrored structure if you wanted to do the entire website in the future. This will also work as a simple storage area for a small number of pages to be created.

Once you've created you pages and folder, you can add a field to your existing webpage Content Type to filter and choose the spanish version. In your display template, you can create a conditional link to display the exiting page En Español if that item is selected. It may also be a good idea to create a category set for language to add an option for linking the documents from Spanish to English and apply to other content types.

The Canadian Wildlife Federation's website is a good example of using a Content Type field to identify a related item that is the foreign language version of the page. In their case, they use the field to relate an English page to its French counterpart (and vice versa).

For example these two pages are "connected" as related items of one another:

The template then renders the English/Francais links in the upper left corner.
