New database manager

Options

Hi - I did some digging, but didn't see anything specific - I'm brand new as a database manager for Raiser's Edge and NXT. I'm wondering if anyone has good training video recommendations or ways to get up to speed quickly. Thanks!

Welcome to the BB Community, @Christopher (@ not finding your name)

Do you have prior experience with RE or first plunge in the pool?

Have you looked at BB University? There is a complete curriculum outline.

  • Brand new, first timer. I have experience with other databases, and I'm hoping something transfers. I just started BBU and will use that!

I don't know about you, but I have always found user manuals really helpful when trying to learn a new system. You can access Database View's user manuals here: https://www.blackbaud.com/training-support/support/howto/raisers-edge#guides.

  • Welcome to the BB Community, Christopher! BB University will get you up to speed quickly, but as you see BB Community is a great place to learn and bounce off ideas as well. @Austen Brown and @JoAnn Strommen among others are Rock Stars? and really provide excellent, helpful tips.

  • BBU classes are fantastic! I was new to RE last July, and I already feel like a pro thanks to their classes.

  • Sorry to hijack this thread: are there any resources that people would recommend for the bits of being a database manager that are less about RE and more about the other skills required? I guess I'm the opposite of Christopher - I'm familiar with RE already and considering making the step up from being more of a “power user”, but not sure I have the experience.

  • @Alan French I have every confidence that you will be successful making the step up.? You always provide great advice and often bring a different perspective to problem solving and approach. You are an active community member and you stay informed. Staying informed is essential to success. You are ready, 100%

  • Aww thank you @Jeannie Goings, that's so kind of you to say! I do love a good problem to solve, and there's never a shortage of those ?

  • I think you will find a lot transfers. I recommend you attend as many BBCon sessions as you can too, there are a few sessions focussed on database managers.
