Sustainer Dynamic Ask String

Options
We're putting together a sustainer campaign and are trying to configure the ask strings on the donation form in such a way as to not encourage downgrading current one-time highest previous giving levels (HPC).

What we're trying to reach is the following strings for previous giving level ranges:

HPC range      Ask string

$0-59              $5, 10, 15

$60-119          $10, 15, 20

$120-179        $15, 20, 25

$180+            $20, 25, 30

I've been plugging numbers into the formulas used in the ask strings (% decrease of HPC, additional amount, rounding, min/max),  but I'm running into situations where certain existing donation levels create doubled ask strings ($10, 10, 20, for example).

Anyone have a magic formula they use for these situations?

We're trying to avoid having multiple donation forms for each giving range--but will do so if necessary.

  • Here's the solution we came up with:
    • Publish all possible donation levels
    • Create groups for each HPC giving range
    • Wrap a conditional script based on these group to hide certain donation levels
I dug up the script from an older Sara Hoffman post:

There's likely a way to calculate the dynamic donation levels based on HPC to avoid the doubled up ask strings, but this solution seems to do the trick for now.
