Query - Total Number of Gifts equals 1

Options
Hi all,

This is my first post.  I writing to see if anybody has any idea why I'm getting the results I'm getting.

I need to query on all constituents that has given a total of 1 gift, where the gift is $250.00 or more last year.  I'm using the Summary for Gift/Total Amount of Gifts criteria function and setting that to 1 gift, setting the date range to 1/1/18-12/31/18 and setting the gift amount to greater than or equal to $250.00

For some reason, I get a handful of constituents that have donated more than once in that year.  I'll get that gift of $250.00 or more, but I'll also get gifts from that same year for other amounts as well.  If I remove the gift amount criteria, I'll get constituents that have donated only once last year, which is what I wanted but without the $250 or more criteria.

At the end of the day, it could fixed manually in a spreadsheet by filtering but I'd like to know why RE is grabbing these constituents in the first place.  Any insight would be appreciated.

Thank you.  I look forward to contributing more to this community.

  • Hi Fred,

For the constituents who have donated more than once in the year, are their other gifts less than $250? If so, I think the results you're getting here are technically correct - it's including everyone who has given exactly one gift of $250 or more, but there's no requirement that they cannot have given other gifts that fall outside those criteria (i.e. less than $250).

If you want to exclude those people who gave more than once during that period, I think you could do that by adding a second summary criteria to your query: either for constituents that have given a total of 0 gifts where the gift is less than $250 last year, or for constituents that have given a total of 1 gift last year of any amount.
  • Your problem is the $250 or greater than. Make it = to $250 and that will give you those constituents with only 1 gift of $250.
  • But Fred wants to include people who gave more than $250, just as long as it was only from 1 gift.
  • I mis-read his original post. Do what Alan suggested and that will give you what you need.

What Alan mentioned is on the money.  Your original query doesn't have a criteria for total number of gifts = 1 where gift date = last year.  Adding that with an AND to your existing criteria and you should be fine.
  • Thank you, Alan!  This worked flawlessly.

Thanks to everyone who offered their insight.  This forum is great.
