Two constituents with deceased spouses marry each other

Options
So here's a situation I haven't run into before... I have two constituents, each with a deceased spouse who have now married each other and I'm not completely sure how to proceed. Currently the deceased spouses do not have their own record. My thought is to create separate records for the deceased spouses and then set up a relationship of 'deceased spouse" to tie the records back to the surviving spouse, and then make each survivor the spouse of the other...

Does this make sense, or does someone have a better, cleaner option?3

Thanks :)

  • This sounds like a good solution, Roger!
  • Yes to the suggestions above! I always uncheck "spouse" and use the relationship types of "late spouse" and "widow" when a person dies.
  • Roger,

In our database, If they don't have a constituent record, I just add them as an individual relation with the relationship as deceased spouse. Which keeps the information available for future reference.

  • Oh yeah -- and I also have a Business Rule that populates pop-ups if their record is opened or chosen in gift batch that says that the person is deceased to insure there is not any new entries of gifts etc. no the record.
