Two constituents with deceased spouses marry each other

So here's a situation I haven't run into before... I have two constituents, each with a deceased spouse who have now married each other and I'm not completely sure how to proceed. Currently the deceased spouses do not have their own record. My thought is to create separate records for the deceased spouses and then set up a relationship of 'deceased spouse" to tie the records back to the surviving spouse, and then make each survivor the spouse of the other...

Does this make sense, or does someone have a better, cleaner option?3

You shouldn't have to have to create a constituency record for the deceased individuals. I believe that you can do the relationship without necessarily linking them to a constituent record. I find that having unnecessary constituent records isn't beneficial at all to the efficiency of the database and may lead to accidental data input in the system.

I agree with Jeremy - I would just untick the Spouse box for the deceased constituents' relationships and leave them as non-constituent individual relationships on the surviving spouses' records, then create the new spouse relationship.

Okay - so it sounds like the decedents are the ones that hold the Constituent record and their spouses are non-constituent relationships on those records. Been there, done that.

Mark each decedent deceased. And make each spouse into their own constituent record. Mark the deceased deceased by checking the Deceased box and add the date or year, whatever you have and Invalid Address and uncheck Send Mail. And uncheck the Soft Credit Spouse/Relationship box on Tab 2 of the relationship.

The two surviving spouses that married each other. Link them together as Spouses with the Spouse checkbox and check the HoH box on whichever ones fits your criteria for HoH. Make sure that Soft Credit Spouse/Relation is checked on Tab 2 of their Relationship.

Be sure to fix their Add/Sals to reflect new relationship.

Update addresses appropriately on the new couple. Ta da!

Yes to the suggestions above! I always uncheck "spouse" and use the relationship types of "late spouse" and "widow" when a person dies.

In our database, If they don't have a constituent record, I just add them as an individual relation with the relationship as deceased spouse. Which keeps the information available for future reference.

Oh yeah -- and I also have a Business Rule that populates pop-ups if their record is opened or chosen in gift batch that says that the person is deceased to insure there is not any new entries of gifts etc. no the record.
