DD form - first payment date timings wrong?

Options
Dear all,

I have built a DD online express form and tested it (it works fine and we can process the batch). I am struggling however with the defaulted first payment date which appears on the form. This states the first DD will be taken the next month. In our case this isnt always the case, as any new instruction received now (end of September) would result in the first DD being taken form the donor's account in November (and not October).

Has anyone experienced this and how did you overcome it? I have checked the advanced days in RENXT Config/General are set to 10 days.

Many thanks,

Emma

  • Hi Emma Collings‍ . You're correct that in the case you describe, where the first scheduled donor installment would fall within the 10-day notification period you've configured in RE, Online Express doesn't have logic built it to detect this scenario and adjust the first installment to the following month. We are however looking at solving for this in our new donation forms that are in limited availability in RE NXT.

In the interim, this knowledgebase article describes a possible workaround that you could consider. It's not perfect but it could help reduce the likelihood of donor confusion:

I hope that helps a bit. Thanks Emma.

  • Thank you Chris. I look forward to this being resolved, but for now will add a version of the copy you suggest. So will donation forms be created in future in the web view of RE NXT? If you can provide details and a time line I would be grateful.

    Best wishes,

    Emma
  • Hi Emma Collings‍ yes...the work that organizations do in Online Express today is over time being introduced to the web view of RE NXT. The donation forms piece of that is in limited availability right now in RE NXT and we'll be rolling those forms out to more customers soon.

I'd like to call out a design philosophy that we adhere to pretty rigorously at Blackbaud: the principle of agile software development. Functionally what that means is that we aren't going to withhold these new donation forms from all of our customers until the day that these forms have all of the wonderful features you could ever hope for in an online donation form.

Instead, we'll ship the first version of those forms that our research tells us would be useful to at least some of our customers. And we know a consequence of starting small like this is that some customers will express a sentiment along the lines of "oh Blackbaud how could you not have included feature XYZ...your new donation form is useless to us without it". Rest assured that valuable features not included in our first version of a new capability aren't missing because our product teams didn't know better. It's because we've tried to identify the initial feature set that's valuable to enough customers that we can get it into market and start gathering feedback and iterating. The sooner we can start iterating on a capability based on actual feedback from customers using it, the better job the capability will do at solving the right customer problems in the most helpful ways.

I share the above as context as the first version of the new donation forms in RE NXT won't have solved for this specific use case yet. But our teams are gathering requirements on all aspects this scenario for a future release (and they've been following this thread as input to that work).

Hopefully that helps. Stay tuned to our quarterly RE NXT customer roadmap presentations to follow the evolution this and other features coming down the line. Thanks!
