Tracking different churches (parishioners)

We have used "solicitor" to track which parish a gift comes from.  Has anyone used another way for Parish Affiliation that is trackable for reporting?

  • Hi Christen,

It sounds like you are saying you know who the individual donors are at gift entry time. Then, there's soft-crediting the parish (check your soft-credit policies, if you have any). I guess you could create a gift attribute of Parish. My preference of those two would be soft-crediting. I hadn't thought of flagging the parishes as solicitors, but I'm working for a religious order, so we don't have annual appeals where funds come through the parishes. You may be using the best tool already, depending on how you're reporting on the gifts, etc.

  • Thank you La Donna.  We are upgrading to RE NXT.  I will forward on your suggestions.  We actually thought about creating a gift attribute as well.  I appreciate your input.

  • How are you using Campaigns, Funds, Appeals, and Package codes for donations? In my organization, our Funds are tied to our GL codes for finance, and appeals are set up for source of donation plus the fiscal year (for example, Telemarketing 19 20, Summer DM 19 20). Depending on how it has to be reconciled with the bookkeeper, based on my organization's process, I would have a separate Fund for each church if I had to provide this information to the bookkeeper; a package code for each church if I did not have to provide this info.
  • Thank you Michelle.  I have forwarded your great suggestions to our team members.
  • Similar to Michelle - I have used an Appeal to track the parish affiliation for donors to a Scholarship Sunday campaign. We found that to be easier to manage for LYBUNT reporting than other methods. All depends on what you want to do with the information after you've collected it.

  • Hi Christen,

We have a relationship code of "attender/member" and reciprocal of "church" to identify which church a donor is affiliated with. We also use similar codes to track relationship roles at a church (pastor, youth, music, treasurer etc)

It's helpful to know which churches have congregants that are most connected to our ministries and how. We have some churches that are very supportive of specific mission fields.

Also, our planned giving officer can do invitations to specific people as well as letting the church promote for him when he goes out for seminars.

    Hope this helps.
