Re-engagement email: How to keep someone who opens but doesn't click IN the no-opens/disengaged group?

Options
We have a "disengaged/lapsed opener" group to suppress those with no opens in 180 days. It's done in the standard way using a query built off engagement factors (opens, as well as web engagement like donations, etc.) and system creation time (in the system and receiving emails for 180 days).

We'd like membership in this group (becoming a member) to trigger a re-engagement email - so we have a chance at preventing folks from ending up in the permanently suppressed "disengaged" group. (Also very easy to set up this email campaign).

I have one technical question related to this that I can't find any answers for.

Because we built the disengaged/lapsed group using engagement factors - if we sent this email "Do you still want to hear from us?" and someone opens - they will no longer fit the criteria for our disengaged group and will become part of our general email audience again.

But we don't want this. We only want folks who click through that email (a button saying "YES" or something) to be removed from the 180-day disengaged/lapsed group.

Anyone have guidance for how to do this?

  • I learned of a solution that will work from BB support! Sharing here in case someone finds this post and is wondering the same thing.

    The solution is:

    1. Make the link clickthrough in the re-engagement email feed constituents into an Interest Group - let's call it "Re-Engaged" for now.

    2. Add "AND Not a Member of" the "Re-Engaged" group to the query parameters for the disengaged/non-opener exclusion group.

Now that I know the solution, I can't believe how easy it is. Just something I needed to wrap my mind around. Anyway, enjoy!
