Large Pledge to be paid over several years at various amounts

Options
Hello! This is a first for our organization and I am unsure of how to enter the gift/pledge. We received notification of a very large pledge that will provide annual income in perpetuity. We will not start receiving payments for this until 2023. We want to record the pledge in gifts but we do not want it to show up in accounts receivable or show up as an unpaid pledge. We don't want to skew our reporting our yearly income and unpaid pledge totals. Any ideas? Thank you!

  • Hi!  I'm curious what others respond to this.  Similar to this, we recently tested how to record a grant that had to be recorded on our hospital side, not the Foundation books, but we wanted our grant writer to get credit internally when we pull reports for gift officers.  We chose for now to use gift type "other" and we updated our config in NXT to not include "other" in both committed and actual revenues.  We don't use financial edge, and I do the reconciling so that amount will never be double counted as revenue.  Also, added a very detailed note to that record!
  • If you know the dates and amounts it will be paid, then you can set up a schedule on the pledge with the correct dates and amounts for the future. You can also date the pledge in the future, rather than now, say with the first scheduled payment date. You can put the GL post date at that future date as well. Then the pledge won't pull into reports with current dates. You could further isolate this pledge by building a Fund specific to this pledge. Then you choose to only report on this new Fund as you desire. (If you want to further isolate, you can make the Campaign and Appeal specific to this pledge as well.) That's the great thing about Raiser's Edge - you can customize your entries to whatever individual need you have at the moment.
  • I did not even think about posting it for the
future! Thank you for the tip.
