Checked box as default for recurring gifts?

I'm creating a donation form for our monthly giving program and was curious if there's a way to set the "make this a monthly gift" box checked as a default. We're concerned our donors may overlook the option and make a one-time gift of $5 instead of a monthly gift of $5.

My topic was with regards to direct debit specifically, and we've already had our first donor who set up a one-off direct debit. It's technically possible, but I'm pretty sure it's not what they meant to do.

Hi Shayna and Paul. Thanks for the suggestion and discussion, I think it's a great idea to have a default selection for recurring giving. We actually have some potentially cool ideas for how we might be able to solve things like this. We recently added a feature to our new membership section called "magic links" that lets you use the URL of the page to control some default selections.

Yes, so long as we could take credit card off as an option. The we could have a page just for direct debit gifts, where recurring is ticked by default.

Paul - totally agree. I think allowing only Direct Debit is something we would want to solve directly in the form editor itself.

Is Magic Links limited to membership forms? We only have the donation and email marketing modules, so I'm hoping to find a solution that'd work with our existing donation forms.

Yes - magic links are only for membership forms today. It is something we are looking into for other form types, however.

Shayna- We had the same issue in that donors on the "monthly giving" page didn't see that they had to check the "monthly gift" option as well. We changed the text to say "Yes! I want to be a Sustainer with my monthly gift!" and that seems to be working.

A magic link to automatically check the recurring gift box sounds great! We've got two different buttons at the top of our donation page so people can easily decide whether they want a one-time gift or a recurring gift. Being able to link each button to the same donate form with different options selected would be perfect.

We're evaluating the option of configuring donation forms to default to recurring giving as part of our next gen donation forms that are in early adopter testing in RE NXT now. Phil Nawrocki‍ - When you create a recurring donation form in OLX, you can now select the option to to "Disable single gifts; require recurring gift" which alleviates the issue of constituents mistakenly processing single donations instead of creating a recurring transaction.

James Taylor‍ - You can have a form that does both single and recurring gifts, just make sure that the box to "disable single gifts" remains unchecked.
