How to deal with addressee and salutation when organization contact links to constituent with spouse

We have some constituent records with spouse in the spouse file. Addressee looks like "Mr. John and \\Mrs. Wendy Smith" This constituent also is ABC company's contact. I linked the two profile. When we issue thank you letter to organization, mail letter to contact, the letter shows "Mr. John and \\Mrs Wendy Smith" - this is wrong. My question is how to get rid of "\\". When I issue letter to individual donor, there are no "\\" in the letter,. such as"Mr. John and Mrs. Wendy Smith" - this correct.

Anyone knows how to solve the problem?

You can just make the salutations editable and make to say what you want, I found this the easiest way around it.

You could also remove that slash from your addressee formula, if you have access to that area in Raiser's Edge. It is there for line break purposes - shows where the addressee would break into two lines on a label, for instance - but it only is applicable if you use labels within RE. If you don't use that functionality in RE, it isn't a formatting item that you need. And since it clearly gets in the way of your other processes, I would get rid of it!

In the additional addressee/salutation field, we create a new addressee called "Contact Addressee" and "Contact Salutation" and it is only addressed to the spouse that is the contact. We leave the Primary Addressee/Salutation as "Mr. and Mrs., or whatever the home addressee/salutation is.

When we pull letters or mailing lists, we set up the Addressee for contacts to first pull "Contact Addressee/Salutation" then pull "Primary Addressee/Salutation" if there is no Contact Addressee on the record. (In mail, it's in Tab #2, Fields to Include, Click Options to the right, and then look at the Contact options in the left side bar.). You can also export this field.

This way, we can still mail to the couple if we are mailing to their home address.
