Matching Gifts - Enter Matching Gift from Company in same batch as Donor's Gift

We have multiple donors whose gifts and their employers' matching gifts arrive as combined checks. When using the Matching Gift function inside a Raiser's Edge batch, it seems to only be able to create a pledge, which doesn't "exist" as far as RE is concerned until the batch is committed. This results in needing to either enter the matching gift in a later batch, or to enter it in the same batch and go into the record after committing to apply it to the created pledge. Not a huge issue, but definitely not ideal.


I haven't found a workaround or alternate entry method in the knowledge base, anyone know anything?

    or you could enter it on your own before you start the batch, if you have to have an MG pledge in the system.  Personally, if they come in together, I wouldn't bother.  I just make the appeal 'matching gift'

    If I'm following correctly there is a way to create a pledge and make the first payment to it so I would think this would work with matching gifts as well.  I just learned this myself.  You won't see the gift in the batch though, just the pledge.  It will appear in the record and be applied to the pledge though.  I don't enter the batches, and our current one that's open doesn't have any pledges at the moment, so I can't find where to do it but it should be in one of the menus, tools or gift perhaps.  Hopefully someone who does this regularly can jump in and tell you.

    I'd suggest just entering the matching payment as a plain Cash Gift in the Batch, then after committing the Batch go back into the Cash Gift and apply it to the MG Pledge that was created by the Batch.  It won't show accurately on your Batch Report, but at least the $ will match if that's important for your accounting.  Maybe add an Attribute that indicates that the Gift needs additional attention as a reminder and flag on the Batch Report.


    Even though I can run reports on our Fund for matching gifts, I always like to use the MG Pledge functionality so we get accurate links to the Gift being matched.
