Help required updating a date for an appeal

Options
I have performed a mailing of constituents and the associated appeal has been added to the constituents as expected - however I  set the wrong date for this.

I need to correct the date - I have tried a  bulk update and unfortunatley this will update a matching date on an earlier associated appeal.

I also have tried to do an update via an import but  is asking for the appeal import id in the data file but I dont seem to be able to find this..

Any one help me out here?

Thanks

  • Do you have an output query from the mailing? Does this appeal appear multiple times on a single constituent record?
  • How did you add the appeal to the records, via a spreadsheet, a query?  If you have an id list of the constituents you added the appeal to, you can use that in the export module to find the appeal import id needed to update the date value.  If the ID list is on a spreadsheet you can copy and paste that list into a new query.  If it's over 500 numbers, I use Smartpaste.  It's available here https://www.smartthing.org/smartpaste/.  You need to register, but it's free, and I can't live in RE without it!

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for the info on the import id and the pasting tool...I definatley need something that can cope with more than 500 values!!
  • hi - the appeal I was working with only appears once per constituent but the date is the same as the previous appeal added by a mailing. When I do a bulk consituent to replace the one date with another it pickks up the previos appeal date too as they are the same!

    Suzie,

You can get the appeal import ID thru Export. Use your query for records and in output click thru the field to get to appeal - select appeal at the bottom of the appeal list again to get access to appeal import ID.

Appeal may be like assigned solicitor where you can't change just one instance via global. You should be able to change thru import.

PS - each reply goes out to all so you can save yourself time by replying to one or many in one post
  • Hi Suzie,

I've done this plenty of times! I correct it using global change. After you pull your query of constituents you assigned the appeal to into the global change for constituent, you need to replace both the Appeal and the Date under Constituent Appeals.

Appeal: Replace with YE2018 with YE2018

    Date: Replace 10/24/2017 with 10/24/2018

Don't forget to browse changes first smiley

I now have the Appeal Import ID but the validation is still failing and I am not sure why.

The validation runs through the import now but all the rows are coming out as exception..

My import/update file of the contstituents whose appeal needs to be updated contains

Constituent ID; Constituent Import ID; Assigned Appeal ID; Appeal Import ID; Assigned Appeal  Date (this is the date I wish to update to )

It is set to use Import Id (but I have tried constituent id too)

    Update existing records

and using the validation option first..

    Have I missed something?

    Thanks

  • La Donna's solutions sounds the easiest.  You have to select Replace with twice -- once for the appeal and once for the date.  I'd go with that smiley

What reason does the exception report give?

I would also just use first few records in the query for validating and making actual change.

I see other suggestions for global change - it may work but again run it with just 2-3 records first. There are some fields where as you said it changes all and you can't specify it to just one.
  • After trying the Global update option I still found I couldnt achieve what I wanted.

I raised a case and was pointed to the following article

I followed these steps and it worked fine :-)
