Report Anonymous Gift without Revealing Donor Information to Fundraiser in NXT Analytics

Options
We have a couple of donors who give anonmyous gifts to our organization for specific funds. We mark the gifts as anonymous and have the setting marked in the database view under Tools -> User Options -> Reports -> Gift Preferences marked to Include Anonymous Gifts and Format set as Use "Anonymous."

We want this gift information to show up in the webview analytics for a fundraiser but we don't want the fundraiser to see the donor name or information. Is there a setting to change to enable this limited information for specific fundraisers while allowing others to see the donor information?

  • This is a great question, and I look forward to seeing answers from community members.

I'm also curious about your user name. Are you a real person at an organization? Are you with Blackbaud?
  • Sorry about that. I was logged in under a test account we created as we implement NXT. I am with South America Mission and my name is Stephen Pappas. I have a specific user for my account but forgot I wasn't logged in under that user when posting this discussion. Looking forward to hopefully getting some helpful guidance!

When we have a donor give an Anonymous gift, it really is that -- anonymous.  We have a constituent ID for Anonymous.  There is no way to connect it back to who it came from in the database.  We'd have to pull the imaging for that batch if we needed to know later who that check came from.  This is a system we used before RE when we were on Banner Advancement but we decided to stay with it.
  • We grew tired of the limited anonymous options so we created a system of our own.  For "super" anonymous donors who are only known to a few people we create an "Anonymous" record based on the year of their first gift and how many other anonymous donors we have.  So we might call someone First Name: 2018-2   Last Name: Anonymous.

We put any gifts, notes and even high-level actions on this record.  This looks ridiculous, but it allows all the reports to show the Anonymous donor without actually worrying about which report honors the Anonymous Gift checkmark and which doesn't.

We then have a master documentent held by our AVP that lists all the anonymous donors.  So it would show that 2018-2 Anonymous = 4455 Robert C. Hernandez
  • I would be concerned that not recording gifts under a donor's record would lead to confusion when cultivating donors and pulling lists/reports that don't have to do with revealing that donor's name to the public. We have a major donor who gives anonymously, but we still need to record the gifts under her name so we can thank her privately and have a record of her giving for future solicitation, etc. There must be a better way!
  • Thanks to you all for your responses!

I hope to find a better solution than what has been suggested
and chatted with support yesterday about this before making my
post; I posted here as I thought there may be someone out there who
has a good solution for this, but I guess not at this point. I
should hear something from support by tomorrow, so if there is
something that is beneficial for all, I will post here as well.

If you read this and know how to do this or have other
suggestions, I appreciate your time to think through and offer a
    solution.

    Thanks!

Create a confidential or anonymous constituent code, then set up a confidential or anonymous security group, then assign rights to only those people that need to know who the anonymous constituent is.

  • Thanks for the response Nancy. That solution still isn't quite what I'm needing, as it doesn't allow a restricted user to see the gift information (amount, fund, etc.) but not the donor information. This solution will block the fundraiser from seeing the gift information altogether and thus, will give inaccurate fund totals. Unless I'm missing something.

Steve, were you able to find any solutions?  I am looking for something similar.  I would like fundraisers in NXT to be able to see their donor information but not an Anonymous  gift on their record.  Others have need to see that gift and we want to keep it on their record.  I would love to know what you came up with!

  • This is how we do it too.  It is an Anonymous record.

  • Is there a way to block the donor info in the webview when building a Gift List.  I have different view only users that need to see certain funds, but I don't want them to see any donor info on a person who give anonymously. I want them to see only the amount given to their fund and the donor to be anonymous.  Any suggestions or help?

It would be great to have an option in the filters to also filter out the anonymous gifts and anonymous donors in both the Gifts lists and the Constituent Lists in NXT!  Please!!!!
