Hello Online Express Community!


I am the Product Manager for OLX, and as we get to the end of another great year, I wanted to reach out and give an update on a few changes to the Online Express roadmap as well as offer a bit of transparency into our Next Generation Products’ long range plan.


You probably won’t be surprised to learn that we are investing heavily in Next Generation features such as new Email and Donation Forms. This means that you will soon be able to access the features that you know and love in Online Express natively within the context of Raiser’s Edge NXT from a web browser such as Chrome or Firefox. We have already begun an Early Adopter Program for native email functionality, and you will continue to see incredible value delivered next year as we build out the OLX Form types (starting with Donations) in our web view solutions.


Our present focus for Online Express has shifted a bit and is being driven by new privacy regulations coming out of the European Union known as the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), but all customers will benefit from these changes regardless of geography. We do acknowledge that these new regulations have forced us to reprioritize roadmap items such as multi-step donation forms and adopting ApplePay and other new mobile payment methods. The good news is that we are still working on all those capabilities, but that they will show up natively in RENXT’s web view as opposed to within your Online Express plugin.


Please do not worry. Online Express is going nowhere as long the option to login to the Raiser’s Edge database view still exists! But we also know that we can deliver more value to our clients quicker by building new functionality directly into the Raiser’s Edge NXT web view. That’s why some of our roadmap items have pivoted towards NXT. You can see below the Online Express roadmap that was presented at BBCon this year. Please let this be your reference for the timing of future OLX feature delivery, as of the End of Year 2017.

after seeing the topic here https://community.blackbaud.com/forums/viewtopic/213/37998?post_id=143863#p143863 and links mentioned in the posts, it seems like the required granularity for consent collection is still in "Idea" stage in Online Express. Will Online Express be updated to allow more detailed consent collection and opt out management, and if yes when will this be released? Is there any more detailed information available on a similar level as done for the RE7.96 patch 8 consent features (https://community.blackbaud.com/blogs/8/4385)?


We are looking at options for contacting our constituents for consent collection, and it would be ideal if we can use our existing BB integrated systems (RE 7.96, Online Express), but it's hard to say at the moment if this will be fit for purpose. We are investigating other options, but it's hard to make a decision if we're not sure what exactly to expect on Online Express side.

Blackbaud Etapesty users already have a form builder function which allows them to create a form to collect multi-channel consent information from the current supporters on their database and also from new supporters. They can create a form to collect the consent information which then feeds directly into their supporter database.


We have been most disappointed to see that such a function has not been created within OLX for Raiser's Edge. This means that we will only be able to collect multi-channel consent when people wish to make a donation. If you included the functionality to create a consent collection form within OLX, this would allow us to gather consent information for both existing and new supporters, which would improve our marketing abilities and therefore increase our fundraising potential.


OLX includes the ability to create sophisticated event registration forms, but we cannot create a simple consent collection form asking people for only their contact details and contact preferences. We may have to create a form on our website which will cost money and, most importantly, it will not be integrated with Raiser's Edge, so we will have to import the information and run the risk of increased data entry errors and duplicate entries. With consent being so critical, I feel it is a huge oversight that we do not have the ability to create a Raiser's Edge integrated multi-channel consent collection form, so we can ask existing supporters and potential supporters how they want to hear from us, and then accurately and efficitantly store this information on the database.


In your introduction you state that "all customers will benefit from these changes", however not all Blackbaud customers are being given the same tools to help them be GDPR compliant.


Please can you tell me if this will be addressed? I would very much like to see a form builder for Raiser's Edge so that we can build a multi-channel consent form that is separate from the donation process.
