What is the best practice in marking gifts as Posted to General Ledger?  We are looking at a way to mark gifts as Posted, so the gifts can not be easily changed.

    I'm guessing you are not integrated with your accounting software as generally the posting is part of the transfer of data to your accounting software. Even if you are not integrated when you export the data to take it to your accounting you can mark gifts as posted.


    The posting gift process can be done for any gifts in a certain time period even if you are not taking it to accounting. May need supervisor rights to access under Admin. 


    There are several knowledgebase articles about the process and how to do it.  Just search 'how to post gifts'.

    If you are not integrated with financial software, you do also have the option to use Global Change to mark gifts as Posted.  However, in any case, be aware that to Unpost gifts, you will need to use the [UnPost Gifts] Plug-in which requires all other Users to be logged out.

    Our RE database is not currently integrated with our financial software.  I still go through the posting process, a certain period of time after the gifts happen, so that it requires adjustments and documenting to make changes to gifts.  This helps with database cleanliness for us.  I'm a bit behind at the moment, but I am supposed to be posting gifts at end of fiscal year for the prior fiscal year, but that is just our schedule that was set internally.  We are moving, at the beginning of 2018, to a different financial system with different people running it, so I imagine I will be asked to post more frequently then that going foward.

    Even if you are not intergrated with FInancal Edge you can post gifts in Raiser's Edge using the Post to General feature in Admin area.  Make sure you have rights to post with your security settings for your user group.
