StepParents and StepChildren - Entry

Options
Hello,

I just want to make sure I'm entering some information correctly. Nothing looks right.

So I have a couple, Bill and Margaret Smith. They have a record together in RE. There are three children, each has their own record here as campers. One of the children is Bill's from a previous marriage. When I add the relationship of this child to the couple, the relationship type would be Parents. But Margaret is not his mother. She is his stepmother. Does she need her own record to indicate that?

  • I would add an entry in relationships that states 'father and step-mother' if the couple is on the same record. Reciprocal would be 'son and step-son'.

What Linda said - but I'd be more generic - Step parent with the reciprocal of Step Child. The son, father, mother, daughter part can be assumed by looking at the gender. This way you don't need so many relationship and reciprocal types. :)

I would say yes she needs her own record if you don't want other employees -- either currenty working or after you are long gone -- to have to figure out or assume, which can get some in trouble.  It is better to show the relationships.  That is my two cents.
