Appeal Attributes

Options
Hi All,

I am having trouble finding information on appeal attitbutes, how to query on them and how to add the attibute to a batch.  I rememebr reading, in the community, that someone was using them so I was hoping you all can help.

Our organization just started using "Dip Jars" and has been running a "Dollor add on program" for years.  At the moment there is no way to track which location the donation came from, other then using reference. This is not consistent and means that you need to remember a bunch of reference names to serach on them.

I was thinking of creating two different appeals, one for the dip jars and one for the dollor add on program. From here I would add each loaction inside the appeal. This way when I enter the gifts I can pull the appeal and the location.

Please let me know if you have any information on this or have any other ideas.

Much appreciated!

  • We use Dip Jars too! Or we did. They didn't end up being very lucrative for us because our front desk has terrible cell phoen reception.

I would suggest maybe using gift subtype to distinguish money from dip jars. Gift subtype is really meant to link to specific merchant accounts (they tie into funds and can identify the debit account number associated with a specific merchant, if you're integrated with FE), so since Dip Jar is a unique merchant that deposits into one of your accounts, I would say it makes the most sense there.

So then you could have Dip Jar as the subtype, Dollar Add On program as an appeal, and location in package maybe? That only makes sense if you consider the Dip Jar to be a subset of your Dollar Add On program though.

Great thoughts! I am not incharge of the programs just the tracking. I will talk to the employee in charge of this and see if she is okay with the dip jar as a subset of the Dollar Add on. It makes sense.

  • If not, then maybe just two appeals with location as the package would make the most sense. As noted in a previous topic from yesterday afternoon, appeal attributes get finnicky.

Though gift attributes, on the other hand, would be another possible way to go. But you'd need a special batch template specifically for these programs to make data entry easy. At least at my org, package is a much more common place to store information like this.
  • I would suggest using a package on the appeal for each location. I don't quite understand how the projects are related, so it's difficult to suggest specifically. I just know that package can be used for querying and it's a drop down menu when entering gifts in batch.
